Keto burgers and keto pizza are very often on our menu so I prepare this keto marinara sauce very often. My children like the flavor of basil and oregano, so my toddler daughter eats this sauce as a spread on a keto bread!
Last week I was preparing a burger for myself, spreading the sauce on my keto bun when my daughter just grabbed my keto bread with tomato sauce on it and ate the whole slice. It was funny for me so I had to try and I was surprised how good it was. Keto pizza sauce on a slice of keto bread! I won't share her photo here because she looked like a little pig with face covered in tomato sauce.
Ingredients for keto tomato sauce
Olive oil 1 TBS 1 small onion 30 g/1 oz Tomato with skin removed and crushed or canned crushed tomatoes sugar free 1 cup (250 g/8.8 oz) Sea salt ½ teaspoon - 1 teaspoon to your taste Basil 1 TBS Oregano 1 tsp Garlic powdered ½ - 1 tsp Freshly ground pepper to tasteOptional ingredients for keto ketchup
Low carb sweetener ½ - 1 TBS (to taste more like a low carb ketchup) Apple vinegar 1 teaspoon (if you like the taste to me more like keto ketchup) Crushed chili red pepper flakes (if you want it to be hot)
How to make low carb marinara?
In a sauce pan on the stove heat 1 TBS of olive oil and add finely chopped onion. Stir onion until it gets nice golden brown color and start to caramelize. When onion is caramelized, add crushed fresh tomatoes without skin or crushed canned sugar free tomato, sea salt, pepper, garlic powder, dried basil and oregano, low carb sweetener and other optional ingredients like apple vinegar and chili flakes. If you decide to add sweetener and vinegar you will get keto sauce that is more like a keto ketchup. Continue to stir for 5 minutes. You will have to cook for 10 - 15 minutes if using fresh tomatoes. Mix it well with immersion blender and continue to cook for 2-3 minutes. Transfer your keto sauce in the jar. You can use this keto tomato sauce for keto pizza, keto burger or as a sauce for your meat dishes. Keep keto marinara sauce in the fridge. If properly stored it can survive in the fridge up to 10 days.
Perfect keto pizza and burger sauce
My children like to eat fathead pizza so I have to have this sauce in my fridge all the time. I like to add this sauce when I prepare vegetable dishes to make the flavor stronger. It goes great as a dip with mozzarella sticks, keto zucchini fries or with any keto fritters we make. If you decide to try this sauce in a plain version, a hot version, or as a keto ketchup I am sure you will like it! When you prepare it, let me know how you like it and share it in your favorite social network groups! Enjoy! Ines
