Sardines are probably one of the healthiest food on earth. They are full of nutrients, rich in vitamin D and B and packed with omega-3 fatty acids. That's why, sardines are great food for pregnant women and developing fetuses.
Those small fishes eat planktons so they are not poisoned with mercury like big fishes, and one more thing - sardines are very affordable so they will be healthy for your budget also.
Can you eat sardines on keto diet?
Definitely yes! Sardines are great source of protein and healthy fats and contain 0 carbs! So they are excellent food for your keto meals. Canned sardines are fantastic with boiled eggs for keto breakfast, dinner, or a snack.
Ingredients for sardines keto spread
Sardines canned in water or sardines in extra virgin olive oil 1 can (100 g/3.5 oz)
Pickled capers 1 TBS
Canned anchovies 2 filets
Pepper freshly ground to taste
Mayonnaise 1 TBS
Butter softened 2 TBS
Garlic powder pinch (to your taste)
Salt if necessary
How to make keto sardines pate?
Put sardines in immersion blender jar or in a food processor. Remove the water from sardines.
Add anchovies, pickled capers, mayonnaise, softened butter, pepper and salt if necessary. I don't put salt because anchovies and sardines are usually salty enough.
If you like you can add some garlic powder. Instead of pickled capers you can add pickled cucumbers.
Mix all ingredients in food processor or with immersion blender until you get nice and smooth sardines pate or spread.
Serve sardines keto pate as a keto dip with celery stalks, fresh paprika sticks or spread it on keto crackers or nice keto bread. I like to spread it on my delicious keto ciabatta, keto focaccia or if you like keto coconut bread, you will definitely love this coconut bread without eggy taste with keto sardines spread.

Just tried the sardines salad recipe! Amazing! I didn't even think I liked sardines, but decided to give it a try. I don't have keto bread or crackers, so I just put some on a Romain lettuce leaf, down the center lengthwise, drizzled a little dill pickle juice and added a few slices of dill pickle! Amazing and very quick to make!
