- Fresh basil leaves: ½ cup / 20 g / 0.7 oz
Step-by-Step Instructions
These Keto Mediterranean Turkey Balls with Creamy Sauce are simple to make. Just follow these steps!
1. Preparing the Meatballs:
- In a food processor, combine turkey breast meat or ground turkey, onion, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, paprika, powdered garlic, fresh basil branches, and diced sun-dried tomatoes. Process the ingredients until they are finely mixed, but be careful not to overprocess as you don’t want to create a paste.
- Prepare a lined baking tray and form the mixture into 16 approximately equal-sized meatballs. Place the meatballs on the tray.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 25-30 minutes, or until the meatballs are golden brown on the edges.
2. Making the Sauce:
- While the meatballs are baking, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the hot oil and cook until the onion is caramelized. If the onion begins to stick to the skillet, add a little water and stir.
- Once the onion is caramelized, add the diced sun-dried tomatoes and stir for a minute.
- Pour in the heavy whipping cream, water, and grated Parmesan cheese. Stir well to combine.
- Add salt and pepper to taste, then gently place the baked meatballs into the sauce.
- Add the fresh basil leaves and cover the skillet. Cook for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
3. Serving:
- Serve the meatballs hot, garnished with extra fresh basil if desired. These meatballs pair perfectly with a side of sautéed vegetables or a fresh salad. And of course with cauliflower rice, cauliflower mash, or with zucchini bread.
These Keto Turkey Meatballs with Sauce are an excellent option for keto lifestyle. Rich source of protein and healthy fats with minimal carbs. Plus, they’re completely gluten-free and made without breadcrumbs.
